Charlie took his first walk in the garden today. He hasn't been out on the greenroof since his mortar roll on October 10th. He hasn't even been out on the top roof for a week, because the non-hardy plants are occupying the stairway. DW, his son, PE and I celebrated the completion of the window framing by watching Charlie's first encounter. He made a bee-line to the catmint. Then everywhere else. At first he was eager to get back home, but then kept trying to get out again.

I'm tempted to describe the party preparations that have consumed the past several days, but won't. Suffice to say that the house is transformed, as it is at least once a year. We're ready to share our love of food and our garden with as many friends as can make it here, looking forward to talking politics for a change. As always, our co-host is in charge of decorations. But this year, for the first time, Charlie decided to take center stage.

i'm in blog withdrawal ... must read about NG and DW in the garden ... despite knowing you're exhausted by the process and then the cap-off party ... miss you!
