Bright as a new penny

Copper! A few of my “copious readers” might remember that the earliest design of our redevelopment project was called Copper Silverback Apartments and called for a copper clad façade at a 15o angle. Somehow, we had to get some copper in here. Commodity prices must be falling really fast, because the crew started installing copper flashing two days ago and it’s still in place. Ultimately almost all of it will be hidden. The parts alongside the neighboring buildings will be covered with gravel to create the mandatory one-foot separation of the plants from the property lines. The purpose of the copper flashing is to keep rainwater from squeezing in between the EPDM and cement.

Charlie had another love fest with the crew. He is especially fond of Miguel and Emilio, and they look forward to his visits. I thought it was all very cute until Charlie started rolling around in ecstasy in a pile of semi-dry mortar. The roof is a maze of stone and mortar. I’m getting anxious to see it filled in with soil, because now it looks like we’ve built a harsh and forbidding world of walls. Rising like a tower amidst the Lilliputian battlements is the Sitting Wall, which will be a nice place to pause without having to drag out furniture. The design had called for it to be capped with the same paving stone that will go on the parapets and patio, but everyone agrees that doesn't look right.

Inside the house, we enjoyed being bathed with light while R prepared the space formerly known as the kitchen wall for the installation of windows. The windows will transform the loft, with light reaching every corner!
